WIC Director/ Registered Dietitian

General Description of Duties and Responsibilities

The Registered Dietitian serves as a member of the medical center provider team performing a variety of direct patient care services including patient teaching, and formulating, initiating and monitoring nutrition plans for patients of the FAMILY HEALTH CENTER, INC.


1. Obtaining complete medical history from the patient, previous medical record, etc.

2. Formulating, initiating, and monitoring nutrition plans for each patient.

3. Adjusting patient diets according to therapeutic goals and explaining diets to patients, families, and other clinical personnel.

4. Consulting with other members of the health care team as necessary.

5. Conducting and overseeing WIC program according to federal Guidelines.

6. A part of the PHRM/ISS team.

7. Participating in outreach activities related to WIC program.

8. Teaching and counseling of patients and families.

9. Maintaining all records to comply with required standards, reviewing records regularly as a part of quality assurance activities.  Participating in periodic review of the written policies governing services provided at FHC.

10. Performing other necessary duties as required by the Medical Director to meet the goals of providing primary health care services.


The Registered Dietitian reports to and is supervised by the Medical Director.  The Registered Dietitian supervises the work activities of the Nutritionist, WIC Clerks, and Breastfeeding staff.


The evaluation of work performance will be ongoing, and will be carried out by the Medical Director.  It will not include the Essential Duties and Responsibilities of this position description plus employee attitude and general working behavior.  Formal evaluation will normally be performed annually, but may be initiated at other times by the Registered Dietitian or by the Medical Director.  At least annually, the evaluation will incorporate relevant findings of the health center's quality assessment and improvement program.


1. A Bachelors Degree in Dietetics

2. Must be a Registered Dietitian eligible or certified

3. Demonstrated competence to provide nutritionist services to patients of the health care center.

4. Training, experience, and certification necessary to conduct a federally supported WIC program.

5. The ability to relate with warmth and understanding to the patients and staff of the FAMILY HEALTH CENTER, INC.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.


With regard to the Fair Labor Standards Act, this is an exempt position. 

With regard to the OSHA Blood-borne Pathogens Act, this is a "High Risk" position.

The salary for this position is determined by the Executive Director in accordance with the agency's Step and Grade Compensation Program adopted by the Board of Directors, and with consideration for the unique qualifications of the candidate.
